PRINCE GEORGE STAR. Newsy Letter From Front; Men Discussing How Government Will Assist Them to Get Land The following letter has been received by The Star from H. Leslie Fillmore, one of the Fort George boys at the front and gives an idea of how the men Everything is going as well as expected with us, a far better winter than last. Most of the fellows that came over in our battalion from around Prince are looking at the land question I Geoi'ge are still on top, with n as it will affect them in the fu- few in'hospital, but nothing se- ture. The writer also thanks the local: chapter Daughters of the Daughters for their welcome Christinas box. The Star wishes to thank the writer for his newsy little letter and can assure him and the rest of the boys from the Prince George district their communications are always welcome; Somewhere in France. Jan. 8, 1917. To the Editor* Star, Prince George, paper arrives B.C.—Dear Sir, regularly your each week. After reading it I pass it on and it goes the round of the\company. All the fellows are anxious to get a bit of news from home; there is always something in it we hadn't heard before. There seems to be quite a lot of people moving away, which I'm sorrj* to"&ee. but think they will be back after the war and lots of new people with them. I suppose the new government at the next session will take up the matter of the proper induee-ments to get returned soldiers located on the land after the war. I have talked to several young fellows since coming to France, from the Fort George District that were married while in England, They are all asking the same question, "Will the government give us a start until we get on our feet?" If not it's very doubtful if many try it as we have found out its too slow a process without some financial backing. >• I saw Ted Hilton, Cy Patterson and Dougal McDougal, just as we were leaving the Somine. They were looking well and thinking about the time-its all finished and we were all back in the north country again. Was also up to see the NWestern Scots at the same xtime. Wa» talking to Cook, the lumberman from Prince George; also Harry Schoville, >fcho is sergeant now. They told me Lieut. Cook had been made transport officer. I hope too many of the Fort George <£oys haven't wen thunder in the 102nd,as I hear they were pretty badly cut up. rious. We all got a, parcel a little before Christinas from the Fort' George Chapter of the uor any WHOLESALE Daughters* of the Empire. They all arrived in good condition and were much appreciated. We spent a very good Christmas, having plenty of plumKL pudding with a small ration of turkey.' Wishing you and your paper, with its many readers, a. prosperous.new year, I remain, sincerely yours, H. LESLIE FILLMORE, No 489687, 1st Can.
