Tlio i'lir-buyiritf season is now in full  swing nnd thousands of (!.»IImrs   worth  of  this A<tluable cornuiodity is being brought  in cviwy   week.    One  hjcn]   \myur purchased   between   (wo    and three   thousand   dollars'  worth last week, and other dealers se-xijivd   smaller   amounts.    One peculiar thing  about   the  business   is   that   prices  are higher here than perhaps at  any other jwirt< oi'  the   province,  ranging from JO  to   1*5   per rent, higher than is paid in Vancouver.   The majority of the pelts are shipped to the large dealers in   Chicago ;m<I New York, where the local men    receive    a   much   higher price than   it'  sold   to Canadian firms;                                  •» .'
The supply is hardly as large as last year, but the amount paid out   in   Prince George will
probably reach $80,000 for the season's catch. The .majority of the money is spent in the city and local businessmen reap the benefit. Some of the trappers come between 200 and 300 miles, as it is conceded by them
! the market here . is always steady, and they receive enough above the usual price to warrant   the   time   and   labor   in

Hood's Piano Contest Closed Last Week

Have you the key which will unlock the piano which lias adorned the window of Hood's store for some weeks ?¦'. Saturday is the day on which the keys will be tried, and if you have any keys then is the time to have them on hand to find out if you are the lucky winner. The piano* is a Dominion, and cast about $400. There have been over 5,000 keys disposed pf and it may be some time before the proper one turns up as j many of the ranchers nearby have keys in their possession, and some time may elapse before the one holding* the lucky key visits town. Some person in the city will be delegated to do the unlocking of the piano, and it is expected people living in the city will be on hand to see whether they are going to
get the beautiful instrument or not. The last of the keys was disposed of about a week ago, but the drawing was delayed until Saturday to enable all thbse who have them to be on hand.

Destroyed By Fire

The resilience of A. Esobolnko situated just west of Connaught Park, was totally destroyed by fire about 2 o'clock on Wednesday inornin*g. An alarm was sent in but before the department cou&Nreach the scene the building had been burned down. Cause of fire is not positively known, although it is supposed to have originated from an overheated stove. Mr. Esobolnko wt?s living alone in the house and escaped through a window, receiving several severe cuts from the broken glass. It is understood there was no insurance.
