IVCF When someone says "college" do you think of four cement walls, bars and a straightjacket? Tired of counting textbook pages to put you to sleep at night? Has your taskmaster got you feeling the blues? Is there more to live besides quizzes, midterms and finals? When was the last time you had time to think about visiting your grandmother let alone spending precious time with your girlfriend or boyfriend? Somehow many of us have missed the mark. The Greek work used for sin literally means, missed the mark. Perhaps many of us feel like we're in a prison (bondage) because we've missed the mark. What or who is this mark and how will the mark improve my life at college? The bible says in the Gospel according to Mark: They just sat there, unable to take it in I For they didn't realize who he was, even after the miracle the eveing before. (Mark VII: 51,52 Living Bible) This passage is referring to Jesus Christ. The men who needed Jesus, couldn't comprehend who he was, and we can't comprehend who he is today. It is the Son of God personifying the perfect will of God, who is the mark that we miss. Jesus Christ Himself said "You are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you to, and you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. Unfortuately the average college or university student in Arts and Sciences, knows precious little about the most sacred, fundamental book in the history of Western Civilization. It becomes a shock to the system when encountering the numerous references to Christianity and the Bible, which outlines Christianity, when you go to a History or English class. It is sometimes mind-boggling to contemplate the fact that one Book has influenced, and inspired, so many people for 1600 years. The Bible has sixty-six sub-books: thirty-nine in the Old Testament or Old Agreement, and twenty-seven in the New Testament or New Agreement. The Old Agreement was outlined in ten major points, the Ten Commandments, given by God in agreement with mankind that mankind would follow them to live a happy, prosperous life. Unfortunately mankind broke all ten of the Commandments. God, in His wisdom, decided to make a. New Agreement with mankind. But, because God wanted to absolutely insure that the New Agreement would be explicitly clear, He chose to send His Son whom He knew He could- trust ot do the job well: especially because He and His Son wereare one. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, summed up the new agreement in two statements: STARCAZERS The Prince George Astronomical Society will be holding a meeting on October 30th at CNC in room 2-233 at 7:30 p.m. At the meeting, elections will be held for the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and treasurer, There will also be a film presentation "Life In The Universe", followed by an informal discussion of astronomy-related subjects. You shall love God with all your heart, strength, mind, and soul. 2. You shall love your neighbour as yourself For many generations people, both young and old, have complained of the difficulty in understanding God's Word, God's desire for them, made in the New Agreement, the New Testament (in the Bible). Anyone who can read should be able to understand what the two point agreement is. "Hey" you may ask, "If it's an agreement where does God fulfill his end of the bargain?" God fulfills His end of the bargain, with the joy and peace which come from following Him, just as wetness follows assoon as one jumps into a swimming pool. Wetness, however, is not very evident if one just puts his big toe in the pool. He must jump right in. It is the same way with Jesus Christ. The peace and joy don't come from curiosity; they come from jumping right in. If you are interested in learning more about the Bible, feel free to come to either or both of the IVCF weekly meetings. Monday from 3:00-4:30 p.m. is a Bible Study - Room 1-313 and Wednesday we have a fellowship sharing time from 12:00 noon -1:00 p.m. in Room 1-309.
