4 PUB NIGHT The pub night on January 16th was a bit of a bust. The usual pub night problems of rowdyness, outside booze, and minors on the premises combined to produce a nasty bottle throwing incident. The evening saw a few fights that had to be broken up and people smuggling in their own liquor. On their first pass through, the RCMP noted a few liquor license violations, most notably the presence of minors. Due to a clerical error on the part of the organizers, the liquor license permitted less than the usual amount of liquor behind the bar. The police gave the organizers a warning and left with a promise to return. Return they did; and with some violations still in evidence, it was decided to close the bar about 15 minutes earlier than it would have. Someone then took it into their mind to pitch a bottle in the direction of the Police. The bottle missed all three officers but hit a bystander, making a cut that required stitches. Pub night liquor is served in plastic cups for the purpose of preventing injury, accidental, or otherwise. The bottle probably came from outside. n &aieioto Metal pins Plastic buttons Kangaroo jackets Baseball shirt If you are interested in helping in any way, with sales or otherwise, contact the STUDENT ASSOCIATION As a result, pub night regulations are being tightened up. Liquor licenses will be strictly adhered to; I.D. will be required at the door; a paid, full-time security force may be requirea; and people bringing in outside liquor will be removed from the premises. If these measures seem a bit paranoid, it should be remembered that bringing in outside booze and letting in minors are both illegal, and that pub nights are supposed to be fun - there is no reason why anyone should get hurt. You don't even need pins, badges or labels but you do need courage, guts and stamina in the face of hostility. There are many who will not accept that this is a call to revolution, but merely consider the matter revolting. So how do we accomplish this incredibly simple and manifestly impossible revolution? You smile at everyone you meet. Without exception. First. And last. Warmly, (that's the hard part). At teachers, (that's the courageous part), and after long hours of learning by the seat of your pants, (that is where the stamina come in). Do you think that you are brave enough? Or crazy enough? You must be prepared for people to turn upon you and demand an explanation for the smile upon your face! Expecially if your are found smiling at the sterile machines in the hallways ... (I mean the food vending ones not the staff). But then, if we did that, and the smile revolution succeeded, with love and joy all around, what would we have to bitch about?
