The Grannies are angry you bet you bet! by Pam Rogers Status of Women Comittee The Raging Grannies visited our college, January 25th, Thursday afternoon, not to protest any sexist comments and cartoons in our fair Free Press. No, they were invited by the Status of Women as part of a film that Laurie Furlong and Pam Rogers have been putting together for the upcoming Women's Conference, All Women Work II, being held here at the college March 30, 31st. The Prince George Raging Grannies are a chapter of the national Raging Grannies. They are a group of senior citizen ladies who, tired of knitting on park benches, decided to change their image and realities. They are concerned citizens. Traditional and well-worn tunes gain new dimensions when the Grannies finish re-writing the lyrics: - If there's one thing I despise, it's pornography. - Peelers, pornos, magazines, the works. -1 don't see how any man could enjoy - Some, complete stranger exposing her worldly goods - To a bunch of sex-crazed drooling animals, - With one thing on their minds. - Where do they get their morals, one might ask? -Enjoying the sexual exploitation of women! The Prince George group formed in October 1989 and now have seven members. They have 'protested' their appearance at various environmentally focussed meetings around town and Cable 10 is making a video about them that will be aired soon. They were at the college providing final comments to a question the Status of Women have been asking women in the Prince George region: "What is the most important issue facing working women as we enter the 1990' s?" Their opinions and other women's opinions have been recorded on tape which will be available for viewing at the All Women Work II Conference the Status of Women is hosting at the college in March.
