Inside: By Circuncisao Morao Of the students who voted in the past by-election, how many of them are actually informed voters? Judging from the poor response of those who chose to attend the forum, very few. There is no doubt in my mind, or in the mind of others, that this by-election was well publicized. Advertising was increased, and those who walked into CNC couldn't help but notice the candidates, or their campaigns. All bulletin boards were jammed with advertisements, and flyers were distributed. The forum was well-advertised, yet only twenty-five students showed up, not including six of the nine candidates. Despite this poor showing, the candidates still gave their speeches. Chris Kitchen chaired the forum , of which he introduced candidates and read out the responsibilities and duties for each position. As Chris explained the responsibilities for Editoriai Letters to the Editor . Ask a Librarian sports and coordinator, a remark was heard from Dylan Cole: "Yah, maybe I should hear this." The forum commenced on a light lone, with the speeches for Sports and Coordinator, and External Officer passing quickly. Dylan Cole talked about changes in the awareness of CNC sport teams; explaining that there are a lot of exceptional teams that students did not know about. Mantej Hothi spoke for David Ladinski, claiming David's growing concern for sports and clubs. A question was asked of how the students could take David seriously if he doesn't show up? Mantej answered, "I don ' t know." Jennifer Hawkins made the only speech for external officer: Denise Joly did not Voting for the Student Association By-Elections. Jennifer commented on the fact that if she gets elected for External Officer, then she would do her best to bring in speakers from the Northern Interior University Society so that the student body would be more aware of their community. For the position of Vice-President, Ian Forster claimed that teamwork is the key to viewing student concerns. He continued by remarking that he plans on meeting the challenge of more student awareness by creating a newsletter. Ian was asked how this newsletter would be different from the Free Press. His response was that this newsletter would be handed out person-to-person, and that there would be a questionnaire which would be returned to Student Association. Anthony Marotta, also running for Vice President, voiced his concern of boosting CNC's morale. He stated that the best way to start was to begin with Student Association. He wanted to integrate students with faculty and administration. At the forum, the last position dealt with was for President. Romi couldn't make the forum because of exams, but because Anthony spoke for both of them, Romi's plans ran along the line of boosting student's Spaghetti Bridge Contest. morale towards the college. Shawn Petriw said that it was "too easy to be in support of everything." Instead, Petriw listed his line of qualifica tions, and insisted that commitment, dedication, hard work, motivation, organization, and creativity leads to 'General Leadership'. AlthoughElia Vahlas was the last person to speak, he maintained that he would be beneficial for Student Association because of his liaisons with the R.C.M.P. and City Hall. To continue, he insisted that this liaison with the community would aid with dances and other projects. Elia commented that Student Association needs a different approach, rather than taking away or boosting student activities, and he stated that Student Association and students must join together in obtaining different activities. Although these speakers addressed the concerns of the student body, very few were in attendance. The results for the by-election are the following: Sports and Clubs Dylan Cole 137 David Ledinski 157 External Officer Jennifer Hawkins 115 Denise Joly 184 Vice President Ian Forster 153 Anthony Marotta 144 President Romi Manhas 81 Shawn Petriw 129 Elia Vahlas 92 The best of luck to all the winners!
