Much of his work is inspired by the people around him, as was the drawing above of his Grandmother. He draws portraits of friends and family with sensitivity and a fine eye to detail. His art, while often portraying native sub LOCAL ARTIST: PETER GEORGE jects and the beauty of the natural world that is so important to him, is not "native" art. He draws incessantly, wherever he is. He draws portraits of the people at the donut shop and, while waiting for a friend at the CNC cafeteria, his eye is captured by simple things such as the folded napkins levelling the tables. His numerous sketch pads and books are filled with varied media, from pen and water-colour to pastels and pencil sketches. He draws cartoons as well as the portraits, with "Poor Boos" the cat his alter ego. Poor Boos comments on many aspects of life, from Bingo Halls to the urgent need for "More Coffee!" Peter has done many of the illustrations for this issue of the Free Press, and will be contributing on a regular basis. One of his assignments is to draw caricatures of the Free Press staff. Look for them in an upcoming issue. Peter has work available through Studio 2880's Art Rental Program, and is on display at the Native Friendship Centre. i m-
