The awards were based on academic excellence and financial need, depending on the criteria for the scholarship or bursary desired. An exceptional number of applications were completed by CNC students, close to 3000 in total. In his opening remarks, CNC president Terence Weninger expressed his desire for a longer ceremony in the future; therefore, more winners and more awards. He commended the chief coordinators, Kay Zackowski, Arlene Byron, Sheryl Noel, and Darlene Stucci for the splendid organization of the ceremony. Weninger also commended the presenters and their organizations for their generosity. After the lengthy ceremony ended, Weninger eagerly commented on the event, singing its praises. "I am very pleased with this years ceremony and all the award winners," Weninger said. "We recognize that education is becoming very expensive, and these awards are designed to help ease the financial burden." Weninger mentioned that organizing the fundraising for the awards was extremely exhausting. The Manager of Fundraising, David Wharrie (also the camera person for the ceremony), was appointed just recently to ease the strain for the next awards assembling. Of the 126 students presented with scholarships and bursaries at this year's ceremony, almost 100 were female students. The awards ranged from $100.00 to $2,000.00, as in the Canadian Forest Products Ltd. Scholarship presented to Lori Kerr. Other very generous awards in the amount of $1,000.00 included: the Duz Cho Logging Ltd. Forestry Scholarship (Ian Brown), the Northern Institute for Resource Studies Scholarship (Roberta Getty), the Don Flynn Award for Foresi Resource Technology (Fred Klassen), the Don Flynn Award for University Transfer Forestry (Andreas Steinke), and the Real Estate Foundation Endowment Fund for Student Aid Scholarship (Brad Turner).
