Jo cttcTS 36 iter The To: J. Cole, editor The Free Press From: H. Ridsdale ' CNC Student Date: February 6th, 1995 Re: "January 25: our day of protest Where were the college students" S. Rousell; January 31, 1995 I did not attend the protest of Jan. 25 but I am NOT apathetic! On Jan 24th, I went to the Student Association office to inquire about happenings the next day and was told NOTHING WAS HAPPENING! I was told of a two o'clock walk out and that UNBC was having a meeting at 2:30 pm - but that was it! Nor was I asked to sign or told of any petition. I assumed the CNC Student Association was the apathetic one. I'm sure if more students had known of what was going on more would have participated. If so many students didn't "even know about the strike obviously there is a communication problem. If the CNC Student Association wants the opinions ans participation of the students they are supposed to represent they had better find a way to communicate with them. Dear Ms. or Mr. Ridsdale; I can understand your angst, and I agree that the protest at CNC was not very well organized. Partly because there was actually no student association per se. Almost the entire executive was just becoming part of the executive. So, it seems, the lack of communication, although unfortunate, was unavoidable. However, if you entered from the front doors, you would not have missed the students protesting outside. These students were out all day, and were not connected with the student association. Apparently though, I have no right to express an opinion anymore, so I am afraid that is all I can say about the apathy, both in the student body and the student association. Your point is well taken, and I hope in the future, there will be better organization for these events which are so important. J. Cole, Editor jo 'anything to find a job'; The only reason I am not printing your letter is because it would be a waste of space to go over something that has already been covered. If any one lacks maturity, it is you. In the words of one surveyed CNC student "Lighten up, eh-be a Canadian" and of my own aside, get a grip. All I got from your letter was 'for the sake of ever wanting to work at Northwood, shut up.' It's not a lack of maturity, but, as Demian Young said "Compromising our beliefs for the sake of marketplace". Your big butt analogy won't fly here though, it's a gluteus maximus of disproportionate size. And finally, this world is in a lot of trouble if we cannot sit back, crack a beer and take a long hard laugh at ourselves. J. Cole, Editor Valentine's Day, 1995 - THE FREE PRESS - 3 ,,. THE FEDERAL BUDGET IS COMING! EDUCATION MAY BE GOING! GET INVOLVED WITH THE STUDENT ASSOCIATION, AND BE HEARD! The CNC Free Press wishes to apologize for the lack of classified ads in the past two issues, but due to lack of space, there has been no room. We would also like to apologize for all the spelling mistakes in the Valentine's Day issue, but due to time constraints, we had no time to finish proofreading. As it happens, it was 10 minutes before the presses shut down when the paper got finished. Please accept our apologies about this issue, and we hope to correct the problem (be better organized) by next issue.
