10 CANDIDATE PROFILE PRINCE GEORGE OMINECA BC NEW DEMOCRATS I ' r x m z$fcfp Irv 9 ISSUE 3 1996 Charles (Chuck) Fraser has been a strong social activist in the Prince George Omineca area for over 15 years. Some of the organizations he has been most strongly associated with include: Amnesty International, Nuclear Awareness Group of Fort St. James, Prince George Crisis Centre, Block Parents, Foster Parents, Employee Assistance Program and the Downs Syndrome Support Group. During his time as volunteer counsellor on BC Rail's Employee Assistance program he was the Union Counsellor for the Joint Council of Unions. He was also Secretary Treasurer of the United Transportation Union for eight years. Chuck was born and educated in Manitoba. He was a Railroad Conductor for twenty years with BC Rail in the communities of Fort Nelson, McKenzie, Fort St. James and Prince George. Chuck worked for several years in sawmills and logging camps on Vancouver Island and was a member of the IWA. He is currently enrolled at the College of New Caledonia, working towards a Bachelors of Social Work. The rewards of volunteering and being involved in his community have been may. Chuck was awarded the 1992 Governor General of Canada Commemorative Medal for significant contribution to his community and fellow Canadians. In 1993, Chuck was also selected to receive the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia's Foster Family Award. Chuck and his wife Tina have been married for seventeen years and have four children.
