10 ISSUE 4 1996 WE DEffW OF POST SECONDm B. Senum On February 7, students all across Canada protested the planned cutbacks on Social programs. Education was the top concern for CNC and UNBC students. Students from both institutions felt that with the cuts, comes the death of our Post Secondary Education. Throughout the day, students expressed their anger towards these cuts. Starting at CNC, students piled into the lecture hall to express their feelings to our local MLA's. Lois Boone, Len Fox, and Chuck Fraser (Candidate running for NDP), were present to answer almost any questions. During the question period, a number of students voiced great questions. Unfortunately, they were not getting any straight answers from our local MLA's. Simone Thaire, a CNC student commented to these cuts saying, "They shouldn't be jeopardizing our education, by cutting. We are going to be so uneducated that we will not know enough to be a politician or a dentist, instead we will be working lower wage jobs." CNC students then headed up to UNBC to take part in a rally. Due to the misunderstanding, UNBC students had already finished their rally. A bus then loaded students from both schools to take them to the Internet Cafe to finish their protest. There was a lot of enthusiasm amongst the students. Some had their faces JAGGED LITTLE PILL K.Link Alanis Morsiette has infiltrated the music world once again. She's back with an absolute vengeance. Her pulsating voice almost cuts right through you. The lyrics to her songs exhault a surprisingly true meaning. Like the tune "Ironic" screams the ideals of Murphy's Law in a very new-fashioned way. She's dressed down to a grunge look and changed her image completely from a few years ago. On an interview with Muchmusic she states "I feel like I'm doing what I was always meant to do." Her CD can be found around town at your favorite music stores for under 20 bucks. QZAMW N0HINE6S Janice Gordon As many of you are aware, there are many new performers out there in the music industry today. I was looking in one of the many music stores painted to resemble death, a petition was being signed, and everyone in the Cafe was holding a sign protesting the cuts. To begin the rally, a funeral service was offered for our Post Secondary Education. It was a touching ceremony, that ended when the acting minister stopped and said that Post Secondary Education was not dead yet, and nor will they let it die! The students then carried the coffin representing Post Secondary Educaton around the downtown area letting the citizens of Prince George know student's feelings on the cutbacks in our education system. It was hard not to miss; about 150 students took to the streets, and even stopped traffic to get their message across. Students of CNC, UNBC, and all across Canada know that with the cutbacks Post Secondary Education will be costly. With the cutbacks, Canada's Student Loan Program and Granting will disappear, leaving students to go to financial institutions, and apply for local bursaries and scholarships, and we all know how hard it is to get those!!!!!! This was one of many protests that are planned to let the Federal Government know that we as students will not put up with the cuts in this area. If you would like more information on the cuts and how they affect you information is available in the Student Association office. here in Prince George the other day, thinking that my ears could stand to listen to some new and exciting tunes. However, I couldn't seem to find anything that seemed all that appealing to my naked eyes. Yet there it was, a new CD that was just calling my name. The CD was titled the "1996 Grammy Nominees" and it seemed to have a lot of familiar names on it. So I thought that I could live a little and buy it. Now keep in mind that my CD collection mainly contains country, and I am not one that is all that much up to change in a great hurry especially when it comes to my eyes and ears. But I figured that if these people are good enough for a Grammy nomination then I guess they can be good enough for me and my car. Needless to say, I bought the CD and I love it. I think I have just found a new favorite song (and it's not country). It's "Kissed by a Rose" by Seal, many of you have probably heard this song many many times. But remember my collection is mainly country, so I'm just new this kind of music. This CD would be great for anyone, it has a great selection of music. Straight from the heart of Country to the ears of rock.
