10 SCOOPS ISSUE 2 1996 SOOD a' CitMDMH FOOTBtl I tell you sports fans this is a difficult subject to talk about. The CFL is a league constantly going through turmoil. It wouldn't be a typical season if 2 teams weren't threatening to fold or go bankrupt. Now Scoops here loves the CFL game, but the league is a joke and I hate to say that but it's true. Back in the 70' and 80's the CFL was huge here in Canada. I can remember following it religiously, I knew the players and I followed every game. Now, even ol' Scoops barely knows the scoop! The 1996-97 season has held true to form, Ottawa (Scoops favorite team!) was really close to folding, the B .C, Lions had to get the league to help pay their players on payday and Matt Dunigan got hurt after two games into the season, but may be back for playoffs! Montreal fans could care less, same with B.C. The only fans that care are in Saskatchewan, but what else is there to do in Regina? I miss that one fan that had the flame thrower on his head, that's CFL! In a 9 team league we have two teams called the Roughriders (the eastern Roughies are the best). And only in the CFL can you have a record of 3-12 and still be mathematically in the playoff hunt. I can remember Grey Cup weekend always being special, it was a great party! You sit around, sip a few suds and watch good ol' Canadian boys play football in -30 C. The football was really scrambly, but that was the beauty of it. I don't want to see great plays executed in a Grey Cup game, I want to see snow, ice and fumbles! To me that's the mystic of the Grey Cup. I think it should always be held in Regina, Calgary, Edmonton or Winnipeg, someplace COLD! So as it stands Calgary and Toronto will be in the Cup, but never count out my 3-10 Roughriders, Dave Archer will lead them to the promise land. Hey would Scoops lie to you? I pick the winners, it's not like I cheer for the Rams in the NFL or anything!
