26 ISSUE 2 1996 sueceo bv lenoRflnce Fueled by Ignorance (FBI) opened explosively for Minority (out of Vancouver), on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Urban. Who would ever have expected such a powerful voice to come out of the throat of lead singer Simon Springer? After coming on stage and having a few words with the crowd, he leashed into a dynamic spill of lyrics which ripped over the crowd. Bass, drums and guitar were no exceptions! This music had so much soul in it, they even did the "Empire Strikes Back" theme justice. What a feeling this local band created to set up the crowd for Minority, who drove all the way from Vancouver to play at the Urban. Now that takes commitment! With two lead singers, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer, Minority (actually not so minor; they have previously opened for White Zombie), although they did play one love song, they were definitely not here to play us lullabies! One must be quick to admit, hardly such a passionate love song has been performed at the Urban. Minority had a ring to them that sounded like a cross between White Zom- h h TORX JE5T...5M TO m me "m ws DMLW CLEMUm? K. It was definitely a good idea to raise the rafters in the Urban, because there would have been many a pumped one hanging from them as has happened in the past. The bassist at one point, even did a bit of body-surfing himself, while still wailing on his bass. Although the band has two singers, it was by no means too much when the other members of the band sang back-up vocals, nor was it too much when Simon Springer (lead vocalist, FBI) stepped up and added more back-up. As if just the show was not enough, Minority ended it by inviting eager members of the crowd to join them on the stage in a gentle, bouncy mosh. A good 20 did, all the while carefully paying attention to the band's equipment. It's nice to know that when it comes down to it, Prince George really can mosh without turning it into a pushing match. A good band with soul and an excellent attitude; that's what counts and that's what Minority sent out to their crowd. Hopefully, they will come back to the Urban soon to shake the shingles once again.
