On a chilly February night a few thousand people made their way to the Prince George Multiplex to watch a Canadian music icon perform. A performer whose career has spanned over 20 years. A performer who has more Junos and Grammys than any other Canadian artist. A performer who has another 1 single as we speak, and who is also known as Mr Romantic for such songs as "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)." In case you haven't guessed it yet, I'm talking about Bryan Adams. As I made my way down to the stage for the photo shoot I was surprised to see such a large range in the ages of people in the crowd. In fact, it seemed like it went from around eight years of age all the way up into the fifties. That is why I think Bryan is one of Canada's favorite musicians: because he covers such a wide variety of age groups. As the lights went down the down to start the concert the crowd went nuts and crammed up against the stage, and yours truly. Bryan came on stage without his customary white t-shirt, vvhich has been said to have been a famous look long before Calvin Klein. Instead he opted for a Published by the Students for the Students Adams black t-shirt and sparkly pants. Along with Bryan came the rest of his band: Keith Scott on lead guitar, David Taylor on bass, Tommy Mandle playing keyboards and piano, Mickey Curry on drums and Danny Cummings on percussion. Plus, all the way from Ireland, Davey Sparan on the Irish flute and the gilen pipe. Bryan opened up his act with "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You." As mentioned before, Bryan is known as Mr Romantic and it didn't take him long to prove. His tenth song was "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)," and when the song started it was interesting to see every guy hold onto his girlfriend just a little bit tighter, and the lighters made an appearance. If there is one thing that sets Bryan apart from other musicians it's that he is very interactive with the crowd. This included having the mike turned out for the whole time he was singing a song, so the crowd could sing with him. However, the topper came about three-quarters through the night when he hauled up eight fans to play his and his band's instru March 1998 H A CANADIAN MUSIC ICOH BRfflH DW6 - -k fHM" iHJSBSSuIrflSS by Bruce AlexaniF -At XT 1 i r Bryan HUg ments. Keith Scott used his guij" keep the band in line, but even that didn't P - the band really was st. ; ,3 , i Towards the end of the night the crowd getting anxious, as "Summer of '69" had nj been played yet, at least not by Bryan andl band. They performed two encores, and w, brought out for a third encore by the chant "69." Needless to say he gave the crowd 4 they wanted and it was the highlight of the' night. j i I must say that Bryan and his band are sir of the best performers in the music industrc shows that you do not need a lot of fancy 1 or special effects to make the crowd happy my opinion it was one of the best concertst century.
