" Vince McMahon ( Raw Is War) "All these wrestlers who have broke their backs making this living for years end up with nothing when its over. And then they sort of take you out back and they put a slug in the back of the head and dump you out in the... that's the life of a professional wrestler. " Bret Hart ( Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows ) Canadian professional To wrestling fans the 1997 Survivor Series, held in Montreal, will forever be remembered as the most infamous match in wrestling history. The most popular wrestler in Canadian history (Bret Hart) was stripped of the coveted World Wrestling Federation championship by Canada's most hated wrestler (Shawn Michaels), a corrupt referee (Earl Hebner), and a determined promoter (Vince McMahon). When a documentary film crew recorded a year in the life of Bret Hart, they shot a story that makes most movie storylines look as thin as the paper you're holding right now. Simply put, there isn't a second in the entire 94 minute film that's dull. Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows opens with Bret Hart on the eve of the Survivor Series. He's double-cross Shadows talking about his dilemma. He says I character, The Hitman, has beenn Great Canadian Hero for the last sevel months. But promoter Vince McMahi wants The Hitman to lose the W.W championship in Montreal to the hati Shawn Michaels. Hart says both he ai The Hitman would rather blow the brains out than lose to Michaels in fro of The Hitman's valued fans. He ju couldn't do it. J Hitman Hart: Wrestling Wi Shadows then backtracks to events leal ing up to the Survivor Series. Thereat scenes where Hart turns down a thre" year, $9 million contract with the W.Wl rival, World Championship Wrestling. order to re-sign with the W.W.F. for l years and less money. Some scenes foci on Hart's family and show how his pru fession has caused his family life to suf fer. There's even grotesque footage i Hart breaking his sternum and ribs in, match. You'll understand just how slim' the business of wrestling is when youse Shawn Michaels (who a couplec months later double-crosses Hart) pla; ing with Hart's son before a match. Hitman Hart: Wrestling Wii Shadows will be just as important to professional wrestling fan as to someot who isn't. It's a story of a moral man wh struggles to stay moral in an immon world. Hitman Hart: Wrestling Wit Shadows is a must-see.
