Anne Blanchard The College and Career Preparation programme (CCP) offers a valuable - and tuition-free - service. Students can finish their high school education, upgrade their marks, or complete prerequisites they need for other programmes. Students can take one class or a full course load, depending on their needs. Last year, 38 CNC students in the programme were awarded completion certificates. CCP offers single courses as well as four certificate programmes: Fundamental, Intermediate, Advanced (equivalent to grade 11), and the BC Adult Graduation Diploma (equivalent to grade 12). Applicants must be 18 years or older and need to take a placement test to determine the right level to begin their studies. Alex Castley heard about CCP when he spoke with a counselor about applying to a trades programme. He had graduated from high school a year before, but discovered he did not have the prerequisites to be accepted into the Entry Level Electrical programme. He decided to start by redoing two courses to bring his marks up. Since Castley works, he chose to take his classes this semester and in January, he will take grade 12 math and physics. He enjoys the class format, "I love it. The classes are like high school, but it's taught better. You're given a lesson in class, then you do the work on your own outside class time." He appreciates that there is no tuition. Other than books, he only had to pay the registration and student fees that everyone is charged. "It's a great opportunity; it really makes it affordable for people to get back into school."
