FREE FONJTT Let's talk CFUR, Dear Editor: I have a plea for your readers. I want CNC to field at least one student, staff or faculty member willing to take a time slot on CFUR to broadcast a talk show. I have been doing a half-hour how for over a year now and I feel lonely. The CRTC requires that the station broadcast a certain percentage of "spoken word" programming but we are falling short. Everyone wants to be a DJ! No one wants to do the work of preparing a weekly script. The station especially needs a defender of globalization, Star Wars, George Bush and the Martin regime. (I need a target at which to aim my barbs.) If you feel strongly about these or any other subjects, consider committing to a quarter or half-hour weekly to strut your stuff. Of course, anyone accepting this challenge will be fair game for me. Is anyone up to this challenge? Check me out any Tuesday at noon to see if I gore any of your sacred cows. Sincerely, Uncle Don 'The Diarist of Circumstances" Editor's note: Show proposal forms for CFUR can be downloaded at www.cfur.ca.) February 2004 Opinion 5 Ominous implications for our most Vulnerable Dear Editor: The appointment of Christy Clark to the position of Minister of Family and Children has ominous implications for our most vulnerable children at risk. This is the same Minister who was humiliated when asked how many hospital beds she was responsible for closing. Although it was her department, she did not know this critical answer and appeared not to care. Then as Minister of Education-she has allowed the disastrous under-funding of our educational system, resulting in the closure of schools, excessive bus transportation times, the cutting of too many programs to count and overcrowding of our schools. Every single misguided attempt at trying to inflict governmental control over the teacher's own association was rightly defeated by the combined efforts of our front line educators. Her record of governmental performance is one of shame and failure. Now, her appointment to the ministry responsible for our children at risk - especially at this time of scandal and the second huge cut of funding - shows that Gordon Campbell will continue his plans to decimate the ministry while allowing a failed minister to be the scapegoat of the destruction of the safety net and the resultant suffering and deaths of children in care. She has been reduced to a political pawn. Her appointment and subsequent disgrace will not be much of a loss to the liberals. The continued media blitz, attempting to convince the public that the Liberals are doing a good job is typical of the lies and lack of morality for which this government is rapidly becoming famous. Campbell promised not to waste taxpayer's money on advertising but he has now spent an estimated 5.5 million dollars promoting their health and education agenda. This lie not only confirms the corrupt nature of our governmental leaders but has reduced valuable resources that are much needed in the social services sector. If we are really so broke why is Campbell needlessly spending so much tax money on ineffective and inefficient ministers? The terms "heartless" and "without morals" do not even begin to describe the poor excuses for human beings controlling our children's future. Sincerely, Steven F.
