Letter to the Editor ' I found this a week ago at UNBC, it was laying on top of the Bank of Montreal bank machine In the Wintergarden. It looks like a 4-page list of people who have access to the new medical building and what rooms they can access. I don't know how secret this Is supposed to be, but I'm shocked that UNBC would treat important information this way;- who knows what they're doing with my own records? I'm giving you guys this copy because I don't think anything would actually get done if I turnedit in at UNBC. I'm glad that the students there at CNC can feel a bit more secure than I do now at UNBC. -Anonymous ,-- ,. Kevin Lalonde Features Editor As horror stories of identity theft and Internet privacy violation plague us in our newfound global information age, not enough can be said regarding the importance of information security. That said, what the hell is this thing doing on top of an ATM? The discovery of this document, seemingly a list of faculty with varied access to locations within the new medical building at UNBC, should be disconcerting not just to students at the University, but rather to everyone. It is particularly distressing that only security personnel or a faculty member would have access to this document. As it is unclear who at the university is actually responsible for leaving this kind of information just "lying around," it would be irresponsible to cast blame on anyone in particular. However, for the sake of the.students at UNBC, one would hope that everyone at the school, and indeed here at CNC as well, both students and faculty, would take a greater interest in keeping personal and private information like this secure as it becomes more and more obvious that some individuls are clearly failing to exercise the same level of discretion.
