It's
inevitable.
Every
article
or
review
of
anything
to
do
with
A
Perfect
Circle
will,
eventually
have
to
make
mention
of
the
fact
that
vocalist
Mayhard
James
Keenan's
other
band,
Tool,
is
far
superior,
I,.
however,
will
not
mention
that
particular
fact
because
there
are
far
more
intriguing
comparisons
to
be
made
when
contemplating
APC's
newest
release
"eMOTIVe".
The
album
is
conceptual
in
that
it
is
mainly
a
collection
of
cover
songs
that
run
with
the
theme
"Why
can't,
we
all
just
get
along,
man."

The
band
coversisuch
songs
as
John
Lennon's
"Imagine",
Marvin
Gaye's
IWhat's
i.Gojng
On",
Devo's
"Freedom
of
Choice",
aridWHen
the:;Levee;Breaks"
which
.was
most,
famously
performed
by
Led
Zepplinamong
others.
From
examining
the
track
list,
one
can
see;
that
C!
havef
some
mighty
big
shoes
to
fill.

Some,
tracks

Gimmie
Gimmie",
and

Breaksvw6rk;
but
hot'spectacularly.
The
rest,
however,,
fail.What's
Going,
On"
is
transformed
into
an
off
kilter
dirge
and
the
rest
of
the
re-imagined
tracks
fail
to
even
come
close
to'
the
;mark
left,
by
theirjorigihals.
Now
I
suppose
that
it
is
admirable
that
the
band
has
attempted
to
put
their
stamp
on
these
compositions,
but
when
a
cover
song
strays
so
far
from

The
Canadian

tracks
"Passive"
(co-written
by
Nine
Inch
Nails
Trent
Reznor)
and
"Counting
Bodies
Like
Sheepto
the
Rhythm

the
War
Drums"
fare
much
better
that
most
of
the
covers.
However,
it
should
be
noted
that
"Counting
Bodies"
is
simply
a
remix
of
the
track
"Pet"
from
APC's
previous-album
"13tn
Step".
All
this
leaves
one
to
ponder
the
ages
old
question:
when
is
Tool
coming
out
with
a
new
album?
