Planes, Trains and Automobiles (well, buses) - year-round travel discounts for CNC students Courtesy of the CNC Student Association Thinking of escaping for a few days during Reading Break, or already thinking about going somewhere at the end of the semester? Great news - a number of discounts on travel for students within Canada and around the world are available to CNC students thanks to Travel CUTS and the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) I The ISIC is the only internationally recognized student card in the world - in fact, its' recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)! This internationally recognised student card allows you to take advantage I of many discounts organised exclusively for students, IncludinjiignificnMscountSi V- tor stuaerp travel. in two of the most TJopulaJ e travel discountslnclude 25! i ofFtraveP with Greyhounds Bus Lines and 35 to 50 off a ride on VIA Rail. "A lot of CNC students from communities outside Prince George use Greyhound and can benefit from the 25 discount with the ISIC," said Jessica Welygan, Internal Affairs Coordinator for the CNC Students' Association. "And of course members from the coast can get half-off the price of a train ride out to Prince Rupert. But many other students also get an ISIC for the discounts on air travel!" Students across Canada can access student prices on flights anywhere in the world through Travel CUTS (Canadian University Travel Services). 'The actual discount depends on when, where and how you're traveling but CNC students can save quite a bit by using an ISIC and booking through Travel CUTS" said Rob Mealey, Resource Coordinator for the Students' Association. v Because CNC students are members of both the Students' Association and the Canadian Federation of Students, CNC students can get an ISIC for FREE (non-members like UNBC students have to fork out $16.00 - this is a great deal!) This time I will explore something more substantial than coffee: lunch. There are a surprising number of places to eat in the college vicinity. I am talking about a small area from Pine Centre mall to 15th Ave, the highway to Ospika. Essentially, I looked at a 10-block radius, with the college as a central location. As there are too many eateries to discuss, I will suffice with a list organizing the places under broad menu choices. Look below for the addresses of each location. Before we leave the college I must point out a sadly overlooked location, just beside the cafeteria. That location is Kodiaks, our very own fine dining restaurant. Although you will not leave the college, you will feel like you have. I encourage everyone to experience the culinary arts students at their best. Outside of the college I will begin with a perennial favourite: pizza. There are three pizza places in the immediate area around the college, all of them deliver, and all of them have free delivery in the bowl area (with a minimum order of $15 to $20). Those places are: Dominos, Daddyo's and Mario's (strangely enough they rhyme). If you are looking to go out and have a drink there is only one pub in the immediate area, and that is JJ's Neighbourhood pub. Moxie's also provides alcohol and more of a sit down meal, with more posh than pizza delivery. If you are in the mood for Chinese food, China Taste is within walking distance too. All three have good atmosphere and get you out of the college dorms. There are a lot of places to grab that great lunch classic: soup and sandwich. They are as follows: Cinnamon City, Empress' Tea House, Starbucks, and Stones Coffee. Stones Coffee also provides breakfasts, and Cinnamon City has the best cinnamon buns around. There are two fabulous delis in the area: Adria Deli and Gourmet Delicatessen. Both have sandwiches and other lunch items, as well as a large selection of deli goodies. Gourmet Delicatessen also specializes in European foods. There are some other places to eat near the college, but I want to encourage you to try new things beyond the golden arches, Timmies, and Arby's. So go on, get out, explore CNC's neighbourhood and find yourself something good to eat today. pLocahonsand dresses fjjTOomirioes Pizza: 1960 S. CBlvd ' ; ' "iMDaddy6's Pizza and RibsTl630 Central E."
