Farewell to the Naughties! pt.2 Gilly Sinlow, “Popped Culture” Farewell to George W. Bush’s Administration of monstrosities! In this last decade of the Naughties (Notties, Noughties, Naughty Aughties, The Oh’s... et cetera) there has never been such a villainous president since Tricky Dick Nixon. George W. Bush was as evil as he was flaky. He had turned America into a hyperbole for Agressive and Assanine. Through the eight years of his presidency, he had worked through Hurricane Katrina, 9/11 and the many events in between like the rise of South Park, a politically incorrect animated program that had raised issues like homosexuality, alcoho! abuse, curse words, and even events like the Samoa Pirates, Michael Jackson and Osama bin Laden. What does it have to do with President “Dubya”? South Park was probably one of the most vocal and accessible programs that had critiqued the Bush Administration. It had ridiculed, belittled and even spoke ill of the President. Albeit, in light of his facade to the public eye, there were many, well numerous, resources that portrayed the Bush Administration in a bad light on the big screen, on televisions, and on radio. Yet, a double standard of the radio made a certain chick group go Pariah. . Dixie Chicks were nearly shunned for commenting on the Bush Administration negatively. This sprouted a backlash against the music group. The girls however, stood their ground against the turn of events. They made a new album; they had recorded a song specifically noting the radio incident. The Grammy’s had recognized their resilience and had shown respect to the musicians for their stance on the Freedom of Speech. Speaking of Speeches, Bush was able to razzie and dazzle the mass idiocy (I’m sorry but eight years of Bush was a choice in a democratic society). He was able to invoke terror, fear and insecurity of national security during his reigns on the Chariot of Patriot Spirit. He was able to provide a sociological phenomena called the Culture of Fear. He was able to sustain a control over the country by scaring the mass idiocy that certain groups of terrorists have planned out a massive attack against America and that America’s Army was the only answer to of dissolving the terrorists, dissolvir~ , the anarchy apparent in the Mid. | East and dissolving, yet ultimately alienating, the global political stage. Bush was a monster’s monster. He had more days of vacation than any other president in history. He was an epitome of what happens when a spoiled, selfish child is allowed to rule a super power that always believed: “More is more.” Saturday, April 17 at CNC Reception: , 6:00pm.
