Farewell to the Naughties! pt.3 Gilly Sinlow, “Popped Culture” Perhaps the coolest thing about the last decade was the empowerment of technology by means of productivity, service areas, accessibility, affordability, mobility, cultural power shifts and the Internet identity that many people now have. | have a Facebook account that demands only my attention when | feel like it. | have a Google email account that serves me far better than my Hotmail account does. | also have a username that | use for my iTunes account, my Neopets account and even my Nintendo Wii! When | want to check my Facebook on the go, | would flip open my LG Keybo (a qwerty keyboard cell phone) and go on my web browser, access Facebook Mobile and look up people’s statuses and what they have to say about anything on his or her mind. If | do not want to engage in that, | can always browse my mobile web browser for new pictures to use as wall paper or find a ringtone that can cut and paste a segment from a song that is new and hot in that time and place. For example, | bought a steamy firefighter posing topless for the camera and found a Lady Ga Ga song that | liked and bought it as a ringtone. | set the new song up for when | get new text messages and made my Futurama Theme song my income calling ringtone. The latter of which | change barely while | buy a new ringtone for my text message almost monthly depending on how frequently | hear that tone before | feel that the song has become stale. While | text my buddies, | often have ear plugs in while | listen to my iPod Touch. Sometimes | would listen to artsy folk music while other times | would want to tech out to the likes of Madonna or eve Bass Hunters. If that doesn't satisfy me, then it would be the shows | have downloaded that would meet my needs. For example, | watch the new season of The Simpsons on days where | need a good laugh while | watch Big Bang Theory if | feel like geeking out to geek chic show. On top of all that, | may go without my phone and iPod if there is a computer in front me. This portal opens up to virtual community where | play in flashcard games on Facebook, of networks like iSketch. net or even raise Tamagotchi-like animals called Neopets if | want something to kill hours of my time. Perhaps there are many more stories like mine. Who knows? ' may even hear about the books being permanently discarded for E-books or even reduced to using the Kinley for text books in colleges and universities alike! Think of a day where all our textbooks all show up on a screen and save hundreds of trees and money in our pockets. ~ GLOBAL GOURMET FUNDRAISING GALA Saturday, April 17 at CNC Reception: ; 6:00 pm | Dinner: 7:00 pm; dance to follow Tickets: $50 per person or $375 per table of 8 Join us for an evening of fine dining from around the world, featuring gourmet delicacies from Korea, Arabia, Austria, __ Turkey, Peru, Taiwan, Hawaii and New England. — , i meee ample unique creations prepared by a CNC’s Culinary Arts students served in == Wi exciting multicultural ambiance. s @ he Please call 250-561-5859 Ss or visit our website AIS My www.cnc.be.ca for more info : D -_ i) or to reserve tickets.
