HOW! MET
KEVIN DURANT

Shanghai, an international metropolis, is popular
for celebrities to launch their side projects. | was
surprised to meet my favorite basketball player,
Kevin Durant, last year in Shanghai, China. This
event was significant to my life because KD
inspired me with his humility towards his fans,
his talent for basketball, and also his kindness
to people. | gained insight into Kevin Durant as
a human, not just as a basketball star.

Thanks to Nike, | was lucky enough to see
his humility towards his fans by talking to him
face- to-face. The reason that Durant came to
Shanghai was to promote his new style of shoes
called “the KD VI Bamboo.” | still remember
clearly how excited | was when | _ received
the VIP invitation from Nike. | waited for 30
minutes, and finally he showed up. After a brief
introduction about the design of Durant’s KD VI,
the host invited all the VIP members to go on
the stage and have a picture taken with Durant.
| was standing next to Durant and suddenly, he
started talking to me: “Hey, you look really tall!”
| was amazed that he brought this up with me
at first. | was too shy to look at him and reply to
him. He, however, started smiling at me. Instead
of talking to him, | grabbed my T-shirt directly
and asked him to sign it for me. | thought that
he may reject me, but he took the T-shirt and
signed it for me without hesitation. Actually, |
was the only lucky one to get his signature on
that day. Durant made this entire event become
significant to my life because he taught me that
humility was the most precious characteristic
for a person.
