OF NEW CALEDONIA LIBRARY YMCA of ba: Y Northern BC Building healthy communities MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release August 14, 2015 Launch of the YMCA Strong Girls, Strong World Project Prince George, BC - The YMCA of Northern BC is excited to announce the Strong Girls, Strong World project in partnership with Plan Canada, YMCA Canada and YWCA Canada. Strong Girls, Strong World has been funded by Status of Women Canada. The free leadership program is focused on building leadership capacity and supporting wellness in young women ages 16 to 19. The YMCA has chosen the empowerment of youth as both a national and local focus with intent to build capacity within youth in Canada to become leaders in their community and to lead healthy, active lives. At the YMCA we recognize the impact that opportunity and positive relationships with adult role models can have on a young person’s life. We strive to build relationships with teens that provide the support necessary to help them become healthy adults with the foundation to make positive life choices. The Strong Girls, Strong World project will empower young women and girls to become agents of change in their community. Participants will have access to mentorship from local, female professionals and an opportunity to sit on a national advisory committee. “Program participants will engage in a variety of trainings and workshops focused on building their leadership and program development skills, following which they will design their own leadership program to roll out to local youth”, states Colleen Bush, Coordinator of Recreation Services. Strong Girls, Strong World - Prince George provides the opportunity for youth to develop leadership skills and experience, engage in mentoring opportunities, build valuable connections and become leaders in impacting change for youth in their community. The YMCA of Northern BC is looking for keen individuals to become involved as program participants, mentors and workshop facilitators or presenters. The YMCA of Northern BC’s Strong Girls, Strong World - Prince George project was selected as one of ten projects across Canada.
