During the presentation held in the cafeteria, over half of the students seated raised their hands when asked if this was their first trip on an airplane. Various students appeared nervous, and many seemed excited. Beginning with introductions of the faculty and diving straight into providing crucial infor- mation, the College hopes that providing this introduc- tion to the life of a student at CNC will help make the transition smoother. The students proceeded to sit in classrooms for presentations from some of the departments in the college. The Students’ Union, amongst other present- ers, spoke about student life and some of the services offered. Clubs, campaigns, and other events occur all throughout each semester. Representatives of the Union encouraged these new students to get involved in the activities around campus to make new friends, branch out, and improve their English skills. “You’ve spent a lot of money to be here. You will not learn if you don’t branch out from your circle,” Harman Dandiwal says to the students seated in front of him and the other members of the Union. He : reminds the new faces that to get the most out of theit short time here, stepping out of one’s comfort zone is a must. While these students do so, there are faculty and returning students that will be more than happy to help however they can. The support system is there; it is up to these new students to reach out for help when needed. Questions about opting in for Health and Dental Insurance, the food bank for those in financial need, printing at a discounted rate, and assigning U-Passes and lockers are all available at the Students Union office. It is encouraged that each student stops by to learn what the Union is doing to help improve the quality of life for each student. | The orientation kicked off what will be a busy yet rewarding year. The College of New Caledonia is the second most affordable college in British Columbia. It offers small class sizes, exciting student events, and a first-hand experience of life in Canada. CNC welcome: international students from over forty countries arounc the world.
